‘Spooky’ performance night planned at Sterling

STERLING – October – it’s all about “spooky,” spooky stories, spooky characters, even spooky songs. That’s what has inspired Sterling College senior theatre student Bryson Brownlee to put together his performance showcase which he has entitled “There Is No Light Here.” His performance will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Halloween, Tuesday, Oct. 31, as well as the day before on Halloween Eve, Monday, Oct. 30 in Upper Wilson on the Sterling College campus.

Brownlee said of his title, “The initial idea for my senior project was an evening where I tell scary stories in the dark. It would only make sense to mention something about darkness in the title. It doesn’t really mean anything as a result, it just serves as a spooky title for a spooky evening.”

The evening will consist of stories, monologues from plays, songs from movies and musicals and one original piece Brownlee is writing for the event. Classics like Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart,” and Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” will be included as will a Shakespearean monologue from Richard III.

Brownlee will be joined by the Sterling College Highland Singers in songs for the season-appropriate event as well. On the music side Brownlee will perform “Confrontation” from the musical Jekyll and Hyde as well as “Friends from the Other Side” from the Disney film “The Princess and the Frog.”
