Pope Francis has asked Catholics throughout the world to continue prayers for peace in Ukraine. Friday, March 25 has been designated as a special day of prayer. The Dominican Sisters are inviting anyone who would like to join them in prayer at the Motherhouse chapel, 3600 Broadway. There will be a special Mass on Friday at 11:15 a.m. and a Taizé Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m.
What is Taizé prayer?
Taizé (pronounced tay-zay) prayer is a simple form of non-denominational ecumenical prayer, open to all persons without prejudice. The service includes simple sung refrains interspersed with prayers, intercessions, and Scripture, the last followed with a reflection on the situation for which we are praying.
Taizé music comes from the Taizé Community, a French ecumenical religious community founded in 1940. The hallmark ministries of this community are ecumenical prayer and hospitality, and music plays a significant role in both.
Named for the region in France where it originated in 1940, Everyone is welcome to either or both services. According to the Dominican Sisters, the focus for this service will be peace in Ukraine, a tragic situation which has alarmed the whole world.
