Vernon was born on Aug. 18, 1928, in Galatia. He was employed by Steinert Oil Company/Texaco Bulk Agent before retiring in 1980. He and his wife Geneva have three children, Dave Steinert of Great Bend, Mary French (Terry) of Great Bend and Marty Steinert (Kim) of Topeka.
