2 die in car fleeing law enforcement

RENO COUNTY — A police pursuit Friday morning in Reno County ended in a double fatality.
Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at 9:08 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 50 and Buhler Road, 6 miles east of Hutchinson.
Wendell Lue Hicks III, 27, was westbound on U.S. 50, driving a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix and fleeing law enforcement. Russell W. Craven, 55, of Sterling, was in an eastbound Kenworth truck pulling a trailer. Hicks swerved, lost control of the car, and the vehicles collided.
Hicks and his passenger, Lee Francis Billinger, 48, also of Hutchinson, died in the accident. Craven was taken to Hutchinson Regional Hospital with possible injuries.
Hicks was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident; Craven and Billinger were.
