Auditions will be held Sunday and Monday for the Barton Community College Music Department’s spring 2016 musical, “The Addams Family: A New Musical,” by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice.
The show is set for March 4-6, 2016.
Auditions are open to everyone and will be held at 7 p.m. November 29 and 30 in the Barton Fine Arts Auditorium. Characters include Grandmama, Lurch, Uncle Fester, Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley and Wednesday.
According to Barton’s Director of Choral Activities Vern Fryberger, there are 10 principal characters in the show.
“All 10 roles sing; however, Gomez, the father, Morticia, the mother, and Wednesday, the daughter, have the largest roles. Uncle Fester, Pugsley, Grandma and even Lurch have singing roles also. The chorus of 10 to 20 dead Addams Family Ancestors plays a significant part in the show and they all sing and dance,” Fryberger said.
“Nearly all roles are for adults except the role of Pugsley. He is the young son of Gomez and Morticia and he is in the age range of 10 to 14.”
The Addams Family is being produced by the Barton Music Department with Fryberger as music director, Steve Lueth as orchestra director, Leon Sobba is the technical director and Sharon Sturgis is the stage director.
The musical is based on characters created by Charles Addams. Music and Lyrics are by Andrew Lippa.
The Barton Music Department produces a musical every other year, alternating with the Central Kansas Community Choir concert which also features the Barton Community Orchestra.
