Barton County Historical Society will host its June meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Admission to the Historical Society museum will be free and the public is invited to hear about the Pawnee Tribe in Kansas, presented by David Clapsaddle Ph.D.

Dr. Clapsaddle will present his program entitled "A Long Way to Santa Fe." This traveling trunk show is sponsored by The Fort Larned National Historic Site.

This is the story of Robert Earl, a 10-year-old lad who accompanies his father’s wagon train from Missouri to Santa Fe in 1850. Robert experiences the slow monotonous travel of the trade caravan interspersed at times with exciting moments of adventure. Clapsaddle will display the trunk full of artifacts.

Clapsaddle’s program is one of eight traveling trunks accompanied by his talks. All pertain to tales related to the Santa Fe Trail. He has presented programs to over 3,000 students in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

The historical museum is located just south of the Arkansas River Bridge on U.S. 281 (Main Street).
