On June 1 the Great Bend Tribune published a story about a 9-year-old boy being hit by a hit-and-run vehicle at 6:40 p.m. on May 27. The Tribune reported that the boy was mowing, which was an error. He had finished mowing and was pushing the mower when a car driven by Tabatha Bomgardner, 25, of Great Bend turned the corner at 12th and Harrison, running over the mower and injuring the boy.

The Tribune reported that the driver left the area but was later located. In fact, she came to the police station at 7:15 p.m. and talked to an officer.

Police reports further show that the boy said his leg hurt and had a red mark on his thigh; he was checked by an ambulance, but was not transported to a hospital.
