A 75-year-old man was transported to Salina Regional Health Center after a car went off Interstate 70 on Friday in Ellsworth County.
Kansas Highway Patrol reports Karl K. Leiker of Westfield, Mass., was in an eastbound Chrysler that went off the highway at 4:40 p.m., half a mile west of K-156. The car went down an embankment and crossed the culvert into a tree, where it spun around and landed facing northwest. He was wearing a seat belt.
Saturday in Hodgeman County, a pickup went left of center and struck a semitrailer at 6:17 a.m. on U.S. 283, four miles south of Jetmore. The semi driver made an avoidance maneuver, but the pickup struck the semi in the right front passenger fire. The semi caught fire. The Chevrolet pickup was driven by Francisco J. Erives-Maldanado, 24, of Jetmore, who was not wearing a seat belt. He was transported to Wesley Medical Center with undetermined injuries. The Freightliner was driven by Jimmy G. McGuire, 54, of Glen Elder. He was wearing a seat belt. He was taken to the Jetmore hospital.
