HOLYROOD — A Holyrood man died Friday morning as the result of a vehicular collision on K-156 and 5th Road in Ellsworth County, half a mile east of Holyrood. James L. Thach, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. when Thach, who was driving south on 5th Road, failed to yield at a stop sign and pulled in front of a westbound Freightliner semitrailer on K-156 driven by Brian S. Galgani, 24, of Lutz, Fla. Thach was driving a Ford F-150 pickup and was not wearing a seat belt.
Trooper Ben Gardner posted on his Twitter account Friday morning that the Critical Highway Accident Response Team (CHART) was responding and the highway was closed as troopers worked the crash.
