Joe Boley will be the program speaker at the Barton County Historical Society annual meeting, on Monday, Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The topic will be "Planeview — The Miracle City."

In 1942 Planeview, located southeast of the Wichita city limits, was a thriving government housing project built for the defense plant workers of World War II. Boley will re-tell many of his experiences as a teenager living in the projects, as well as many facts and figures relating to the building of Planeview, its past, present and future.

Boley is a retired band director of Great Bend Unified School District 428 and an amateur historian who has researched many topics relating to the Barton County area.

The historical society’s annual meeting will set the direction for the museum and village for the next year. Executive Director Beverly Komarek said members are encouraged to attend to help make these decisions, but the meeting is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.

The museum is located just south of the Arkansas River bridge on U.S. 281. Call 620-793-5125 for more information.
