Access to the Arkansas River at the Stone Lake entry point on south Washington had been closed due to the high river levels. However, it is now open again, Great Bend Public Works Director Simon Wiley said.
“The water was high, and there were erosion and safey concerns,” he said. Now, the river has receded and the levy has been inspected, and the gate is open.
“It is open for public use for this weekend,” he said. But, there was some erosion and the road is pretty rough.
“We just want people to be careful,” Wiley said. Also, he reminded those enjoying the river not to litter and be respectful of others.
