The filing deadline for the Aug. 4 primary and Nov. 3 general elections came and went June 1. So, the slate of candidates in Barton County has been set for the primary, said County Clerk Donna Zimmerman, who also serves as the election officer.
Now, her office is in the process of mailing applications for mail-in advance ballots to all registered voters in the county, she said.
“This is an attempt to assist voters during this COVID-19 pandemic,” she said. “But, I want to stress that this is purely optional.”
Zimmerman said all of their polling places will be open and available to cast ballots with social distancing and other protocols in place.
“We are working to make our voting stations as safe as possible.”
Although it is not up and running yet, Zimmerman said the Voter View website will be available soon. This is the site that allows voters to check their registration, who they will vote on and see sample ballots.
Other election deadlines, such as voter registration, will be announced in the near future, she said.
As for the partisan primary in August, voters select a candidate to be a political party’s nominee for a given office in the corresponding general election. The races that will be decided in the primary because there are multiple candidates for the same seat are noted with double bullets (• •).
If there is only one contender, then, barring a write-in campaign, that candidate will move on to the general election.
Below are the candidates who will appear on the Aug. 4 primary ballots:
