The man shot and killed early Sunday has been identified as Aron Villegas, 23, of Great Bend, Barton County Attorney Doug Matthews said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
“The Great Bend Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are in the midst of an extensive investigation and have conducted several interviews,” the statement reads. When completed, the results of the investigation will be presented to Matthews and a charging decision will be made.
However, since an investigation is in progress, Matthews said he cannot comment further on the status of the case. This includes the address where the incident took place and if there is a suspect.
On Sunday morning, law enforcement officers responded to a call regarding the shooting of a young man at a residence. Although medical treatment was initiated and the man was transferred to Great Bend Regional Hospital, he died as a result of his injuries.
The incident started when subjects forced their way into a residence 1801 Eighth St., damaging the door. It culminated at a residence at 2309 Lakin.
Matthews said the public is urged against making comments on public media websites about the case while the matter is being investigated.
