Friends and family of Shelly LeRoy will hold a bake sale in front of the Walmart Supercenter, 3503 10th St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 15. LeRoy was mauled by her pit bull on July 31 in her own backyard. The Great Bend woman continues her recovery at Via Christi’s St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Shelly's son Andrew LeRoy said money raised Saturday will help with medical expenses that include a Lifewatch ambulance transfer from Great Bend Regional Hospital to St. Francis, as well as other expenses.
He also provided an update on his mother’s recovery.
“She’s in pretty rough condition,” he said. LeRoy’s right arm received the most damage, and doctors are hoping it can be saved.
On a positive note, her son said, “She’s aware and talking.” Friends and family are letting her know they care.
Rachel LeRoy, Shelly’s daughter, created an Internet site that accepts donations through GoFundMe. The page, “Shelly’s Angel,” can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/8r5dxxx74c. The latest post from Rachel shows Shelly smiling and giving a “thumbs up” as a hospital employee pushes her wheelchair to the cafeteria.
