Barton Community College’s annual Music Endowment Concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
The evening of entertainment will include performances from vocal and instrumental groups, Hilltop Singers, Concert Choir, individual vocal soloists and ensembles and the Barton Jazz Ensemble. The cost to attend is $5 at the door and free for students.
The Barton Music Department awards 11 scholarships every year at about $1,000 each, and it couldn’t be done without the help of the community’s support of the annual concert, vocal instructor Vern Fryberger said. The money raised goes directly to the Vocal and Instrumental Music Endowment Fund, which helps fund future scholarships to students interested in pursuing music as a career or to those students who want to continue to participate in music as a life-long activity.
Fryberger and former Barton instrumental instructor Mike Compton started the fund in 1998 with help from the Barton Foundation.
“Those attending this concert will see Barton students at their best,” Fryberger said. “These students have significantly grown in their confidence and abilities throughout the year, and they will demonstrate these skills at the concert.”
