Members of the Barton County Commission recently traveled to Topeka to participate in County Day at the Capitol, an annual event that brings together county officials from across Kansas to engage with state legislators and represent their local communities.

The event provided an opportunity for county leaders to connect with officials from other counties, share ideas, and represent the interests of their residents while visiting with legislators and others at the Capitol.

County Day serves as an important forum for local officials to maintain a strong presence in the legislative process and ensure the perspective of Kansas counties is heard.

An important moment for Barton County during the visit came when Commissioner Barb Esfeld testified before lawmakers regarding House Bill 2745, proposed legislation affecting counties across the state.

Drawing on her extensive background and knowledge in property appraisal, Commissioner Esfeld represented Barton County during the hearing, with the full support of the Commission in attendance.

Her testimony provided lawmakers with insight from the local government level and highlighted the importance of thoughtful policy decisions that consider how statewide actions affect counties and the communities they serve.
