A sample of the plethora of performing arts available to Barton Community College students will be on display at the Performing Arts Student Showcase from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

The free, open-house style event will feature an hour of entertainment from the BCC theater, choir, dance and instrumental departments, followed by refreshments and a reception.

Door prizes and three scholarships will also be dispersed at the event. One $1,000 scholarship and two $500 scholarships will be given away among attendees.

Dean of Academics Dr. Richard Abel said the idea for the event is a response to a community-based request and an effort to show the depth of BCC’s performing arts opportunities.

"We wanted to maintain strong visibility in our community and service area for the arts, and have them all recognize that while many institutions may be cutting arts, we’re looking to grow them even more," Abel said. "We want them to walk away impressed by the quality of students and quality of faculty we have here, and overall as far as the quality education we offer to students."
