The Barton Community College Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14 in the Shafer Art Gallery.
This free program will feature a 24-piece orchestra comprised of high school, college and adult members of the Barton and Pawnee county areas. The show is titled “A Little Night Music,” and will feature a number of classical tunes including selections from Mozart, Beethoven and Vivaldi.
The concert will feature violinist Alyssa Lane, the assistant orchestra teacher at Great Bend USD 428. Lane started playing violin in the fourth grade and played in the Salina Youth Symphony program through middle school and high school. She started playing in the Salina Symphony during high school and was asked to play in the Kansas Wesleyan Chamber Orchestra her senior year of high school.
Lane attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. She graduated with a double major in music education and computers and education. While in college, she participated in multiple operas, choir, KWU Chorale, Chamber Orchestra and the Salina Symphony. She was the Concert Master of the Chamber Orchestra for over two years and was in the KWU Quartet. She also worked with the Salina Youth Symphony Program and conducted ensembles.
The orchestra is under the direction of Steven Lueth, director of instrumental activities at Barton Community College. There will be refreshments served at the end of the concert and an opportunity for attendees to meet and greet the players.
