BCC to revisit overtime rule

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will learn more about the U.S. Department of Labor’s new overtime laws when the board meets at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Room F-30, on the lower level of the Fine Arts Building. The board first looked at the issue in February. The final rule has been issued and takes effect on Dec. 1; it applies to salaried employees with “exempt” status, raising their minimum salary levels. Barton’s solution would probably be a mix of increasing some salaries, moving some employees to hourly and redefining positions.
Contracts for administrators, management staff and head coaches are also on the agenda. The board will also be asked to approve the Biosig software purchase presented at the May study session and the Nex-Tech phone system, also presented at the study session.
