The Barton County Sheriff’s Office issued three search warrants over the course of this past weekend where officers were looking for evidence of a recent alleged kidnapping and drugs, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.
According to reports, around 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Sheriff’s Office along with the Great Bend Police Department executed a search warrant at 36 Kiowa Road, just outside the city limits of Great Bend. Officers were looking for evidence of a recent reported kidnapping. During the course of the investigation a quantity of methamphetamine was located as well as other evidence.
Arrested at the scene was Brent Bretz, 39, of Great Bend and a male juvenile who was also in possession of methamphetamine. This case is currently under investigation.
On Dec. 11, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office along with assistance from the Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and the United States Postal Service, executed a pair of search warrants in the city of Great Bend.
Approximately $7,500 worth of marijuana was confiscated that was being sent through the U.S. mail. One person was arrested. This case is also still under investigation and further information will be released at a later date. Further arrests are expected.
“Both cases are still under investigation and we do not want to release any further information as this could interfere with the investigation,” Bellendir said.
