The Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to two injury accidents over the weekend. In each case only one vehicle was involved and the injuries were not life-threatening.
At 2:15 a.m. Saturday, a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Emily Ray, 26, of Wichita was discovered on its top in a field next to U.S. 56 on the curve just east of the Ellinwood city limits. According to accident reports, Ray was driving west when her passenger tires dropped into the ditch. The vehicle traveled almost 200 feet and then slid sideways across the highway into the opposite ditch where it flipped onto its top.
Ellinwood Police Department and Ellinwood Emergency Medical Service also responded and Ray was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital with minor injuries. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
A second one-vehicle rollover accident occurred at 11 p.m. Sunday in the 10 block of NE 20 Ave. Jenny Olson, 34, of Great Bend, was driving south in a Dodge Ram 1500 and lost control of the vehicle on the washboard gravel road. The truck went into the ditch and then rolled several times, coming to rest on its wheels.
Olson and her passenger, Cortney Nicholson, 20, of Tiard, Ore., both reportedly complained of head and neck pain, but refused on-scene emergency treatment.
