The latest campaign finance disclosures show Democrats raising more funds than Republicans in key congressional races nationwide, and in three of Kansas’ four congressional districts. But in the 1st District it’s a different story. Incumbent Republican Dr. Roger Marshall from Great Bend is outpacing Democrat challenger Alan LaPolice from Clyde in fundraising.

However, LaPolice backers have noted that none of his money comes from political action committees, and he received over twice as much from individuals as Marshall did in the last quarter.

Congressional campaign finance reports filed Oct. 15 for July through September show Marshall raised $143,654 in the last quarter, while LaPolice raised $86,414.

While Marshall’s contributions were split between individuals ($33,100) and other political committees, such as PACS ($112,054), LaPolice received all of his contributions from individuals.

To date in the campaign, Marshall has raised $1,260,831 and spent $527,877, while LaPolice has raised $199,485 and spent $77,076.

Candidates reported cash on hand as of the end of June and the end of September:

• Marshall: $624,436/$751,314

• LaPolice: $70,973/$121,434

Other districts

In the Fourth District, incumbent Ron Estes, a Wichita Republican, raised $179,995 in the last quarter and ended the quarter with $574,102 cash on hand. Estes raised $79,295 of his total from individuals and $100,700 from political committees such as PACs.

His Democratic challenger, James Thompson from Andover, raised $218,700, minus $1,249 in contribution refunds, and ended the quarter with $148,755. Thompson raised $204,104 of his total from individuals and $14,596 from political committees such as PACs.

In District 2, Democrat Paul Davis from Lawrence raised $1,032,990 and Republican Steve Watkins raised $282,342. Libertarian Kelly Standley is also on the ballot.

In District 3, candidates are Democrat Sharice Davids from Shawnee, who has raised $2,450,903 in the last quarter, and incumbent Republican Kevin Yoder from Overland Park, who raised $973,667. Libertarian Chris Clemmons is also on the ballot.
