Due to continued sub-zero temperatures and dangerous wind chills, all schools in Great Bend USD 428 will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 16, district officials announced Monday afternoon.

“In these extreme conditions, frostbite and hypothermia can occur within a short period of time,” a message to USD 428 patrons stated. The same message went out Sunday afternoon when Monday’s classes were canceled.

“As temperatures increase through the week, we plan to resume all classes on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

“Please exercise extreme caution. If you have to be outdoors for any period of time, take precautions to have proper clothing (cover skin with coats, hats, gloves, etc.) and limit or eliminate exposure if possible.”
