BUSY BEES: Story Time entertains children
Bob the Builder coming next Tuesday

Great Bend Public Library’s “Miss Amy” had children listening, singing and playing on Tuesday during Story Time. This week’s subject was Bees.
There were quiet times when Children’s Librarian Amy Mayhill and staff read books. “Buzz, Buzz, Busy Bees” is about animal sounds. “Bee Dance,” by Rick Chrustowski, explains some of the real behavior of bees, including a figure-eight pattern dance used to share the location of a food source with hivemates.
After hearing the story, children got to do their own honeybee wiggle dance.
Things became more lively as the children wiggled and buzzed like bees, or sang several verses of the action song, “I’m Taking Home A Baby Bumblebee.”
“Bees are now on the endangered species list,” Mayhill told the children. Because this year’s Summer Reading Program theme is “Build a Better World,” the children were given packets of wildflower seeds to take home and plant to attract bees.
Children were also invited to taste samples of honey from local hives, although Mayhill warned parents it is not recommended for children less than 12 months old.
