This week, 33 children who have or have had cancer are enjoying a traditional camp experience at Camp Hope in Barton County.
A daily newsletter for campers recaps some of the fun. Monday’s newsletter noted that Great Bend Police Officer Cyril Pafford took the week off from his job to serve as the nighttime security officer for Camp Hope.
“Our Monday was soooo much fun!” the camp newsletter recalls. The campers had photos taken for a yearbook, did some rock painting for the Ma Donna Memorial Garden, played gaga ball and other games, and then went to the Wetlands Waterpark at Great Bend.
Campers also tried out for a trashcan band and started making plans for the upcoming talent show. Crafts included making bracelets and paper mache lanterns, and a camp volunteer had “customers” lined up to have their nails painted.
