Great Bend Fire Department was asked by the Great Bend Police Department if it could assist with a vehicle recovery from Veterans Memorial Lake Tuesday morning. At approximately 8:30 a.m., members of the GBFD Dive Rescue team arrived at the boat ramp, deployed divers and successfully located the vehicle, Interim Fire Chief Brent Smith said. With the vehicle located, a cable from a tow truck was attached and the vehicle was removed from the water. Assisting the GBFD Dive Team on scene was the GBPD and Larry Marshall from Marshall’s Towing. The gentleman in the car parked on the ramp to walk on the new dock late last night, Smith said. The car did not appear to be put into park and rolled down the ramp and into the water after he got out.
