Hoisington High School debaters did well at Lyons recently. In the open division, Corbin Crawford and Taylor Schwartz went 4-1 and placed eighth out of 44 teams. They defeated teams from Hays, Pratt, Dodge City, and Silver Lake. They lost to a team from Tonganoxie.
In the novice division, debating for their first time ever, Blake Deines and Braeden Hopkins went 3-2 and placed eleventh out of 37 teams. They defeated teams from Nickerson, Hays, and Dodge City. They lost to another Nickerson team and a team from McPherson. Alicia Earegood judged in the novice division. David Boese was the alternate.
In earlier action at Great Bend, Logan McHenry and Taylor Schwartz went 2-3. Alicia Earegood and Elizabeth Lacey went 0-5, narrowly losing four split decisions. Blake Deines and Alexis Doonan were alternates.
David Boese, Blake Deines, and Alicia Earegood begin the season by participating in a debate workshop at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina in August.
In September, David Boese, Blake Deines, Alicia Earegood, Braedon Hopkins, Logan McHenry, Vanessa Parr, and Taylor Schwartz participated at Fort Hays State University in a workshop for debaters sponsored by the philosophy department.
