Central Plains held their annual school Spelling Bee on Wednesday, Jan. 9. The elementary grades, 4th and 5th, competed in the morning. There were 48 participants. It proved to be extremely competitive. Everyone put forth his or her best effort. The top four finalists and one alternate will be going to the Ellsworth County Spelling Bee on Jan. 30, at 9 a.m., at Ellsworth High School. The alternate is Alden Metro, fourth place Connor Frees, and third place Emma Wasson. There was a fierce battle for 1st place that went 28 rounds, but in the end, second place went to Isaac Heredia and the winner was Cale Thompson.
The Middle School grades, 6th, 7th, and 8th, competed in the afternoon with 52 students competing. Again, the competition was tough. The top six finalists and one alternate will be going to the Ellsworth County Spelling Bee as well. The alternate is Taylor Sheehy with Mackenzie Foulger in sixth place, Tiffany Andrulis fifth place, Elizeia Franson fourth place, Melissa Donecker third place, Zoe Wimmer second place , and the winner is Lauren Oeser.
