2014 has been a busy year at the library! Starting with the beginning of the year in January, the Kansas Photography Exhibit was held. In February, ESCL was honored as one of four runner-up finalists for the 2013 AWE, Inc. Literacy Success Awards. March was a busy month with a visit from author, Cynthia Kadohata, Chamber Coffee, and the popular Quilt Show. In April, the library hosted a Student Art Show and a special event featuring Wyatt Townley, Poet Laureate of Kansas. Closing out the school year in May, students showcased their talents at Forensics Night, and a Repurposed Book Workshop was held and these items were used at the school banquet as table decorations. The repurposed books were displayed in the library in June. June also is the beginning of Summer Reading Program, Discovery Bags were introduced to students, and a retirement reception for librarian Sharon Sturgis was hosted. In July, artifacts to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of D-Day were displayed, and the Summer Reading Program wrapped up with a visit from Pam Martin. August brings school enrollment, and students and parents were greeted as they prepared to return to school. Stuff the Bus from Sunflower Bank was located at the library this year. In September, the Kansas Notable Books we purchased by a grant through the Kansas State Library from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services were displayed. A WiiU and projector was purchased with grant money Sharon Sturgis had applied for, and have made it available to use in-district. Storytime began in October, and the art work of Mary Jeroue was displayed. In November, the library hosted Chamber Coffee. In December, the first StoryWalk® for Ellinwood as a part of Christkindlemarket was displayed.
