Child Welfare Family Summit coming to GB
1-Tribune

On Saturday, Aug. 26, the Kansas Family Advisory Network and the Kansas Foster and Adoptive Parent Association will co-sponsor a meeting in Great Bend seeking input from those who may have or are experiencing involvement in the child welfare system. The meeting is specifically for birth, foster, and adoptive parents, adults and youth who were in foster care as children and kinship caregivers raising their relatives who are or were in the system. It’s an opportunity to have their voices heard.
The meeting will be held at the Central Kansas Dream Center, 2100 Broadway Ave., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Snacks and lunch will be provided free of charge and foster families will receive in-service hours for their attendance.
There will be questions about how and what information is received from the agencies working with families, was the agency responsive and quick to communicate with them, and what changes would they like to see happen to make the system more family friendly. The thoughts and ideas generated will be summarized and sent to the state Department of Children and Families without identifying information.
Families with any current or past involvement with child welfare are encouraged to attend. Register with Nina Shaw-Woody at SFAN, 800-969-5764, or email Nina@kfaninc.net.
