The Women of First Congregational United Church of Christ met at the home of Marilyn Button for lunch followed by a program by Mark Pressman from Star of Hope. Located in Ellinwood, Star of Hope is a nondenominational Christian organization that supports children and adults in 15 different countries.
Several years ago the church women began sponsoring a young Haitian girl through Star of Hope to help with her education.
They learned that support to Haiti is critical because of extreme poverty and devastating hurricanes. Star of Hope is building schools, churches and orphanages so children may grow up and become doctors, teachers and politicians and fill other needed occupations.
More information about Star of Hope is on its website, www.starofhope.us. More information about the activities of the First Congregational Church can be found on Facebook at First Congregational UCC.
