City honors longtime staff
Annual service awards announced Monday night

The Great Bend City Council Monday night showed its appreciation to 14 city employees for their 255 years of cumulative service. Honored were staff members who have held their jobs for five, 10, 15, 20, 30, 35 and 40 years.

“I’m always proud every year,” said Human Resource Director Randy Keesling of the annual longevity celebration. “We want to recognize these folks. We appreciate you.”

Each year, the council invites those receiving service awards to attend the first council meeting in December. This year, out of abundance of caution due to COVID-19, were not asked to be present. 

The 2020 Service Award recipients are:

Five years

• Jesus Loera - Public Works (meter reader)

• Ashley Burdick - Public Lands (zoo curator)

• Roberto Hernandez - Public Lands (service person II)

10 years

• Laryssa Howard- Administration (customer service representative) 

15 years

• Bill Paden - Police Department (officer)

• Michael Reifschneider- Fire Department (captain)

• Kelly Hopes- Police Department (records clerk) 

20 years

• Michele Hitschman- Fire Department (department secretary)

• Michelle Davis- Public Lands, Cemetery (operator I)

• Kevin Stansfield- Fire Department (captain)

• Jason Settle- Police Department (patrol lieutenant) 

30 years

• Annette Goering- Front Door (customer service representative II) 

35 years

• Rick Eggers- Public Works, Utilities (operator II)

Great Bend City Council meeting at a glance

• Appointed Steven Haulmark as the new police chief.

• Recognized several employees for their years of service to the city.

• Tabled a revised ordinance governing the storage of recreational vehicles on private property.

• Approved the rehabilitation of the city’s waste water system lift stations one and two on Eisenhower and McCormick streets.

• Heard a departmental update from City Administrator Kendal Francis. He focused on on-going projects in the city.
