The City of Great Bend Utilities Department will begin a manhole rehabilitation project on Monday, Sept. 28. Work is expected to be completed by Tuesday, Sept. 29, weather and conditions permitting.

The project will involve interior rehabilitation work at several manholes throughout the community. Motorists should expect temporary traffic disruptions, lane restrictions, and work crews and equipment in or near the roadway at the following locations: 24th Street & Main Street; Lakin Avenue & Washington Street; 12th Street & Washington Street; Odell Street between 10th Street & 11th Street; 24th Street & Williams Street; Frey Street & 2nd Street; 20th Street between Kansas Avenue & Baker Avenue.

Traffic control devices will be in place as necessary while work is underway. Motorists are asked to use caution when approaching these areas, reduce speed, and watch for workers and equipment. Work at the busier intersections will be performed during the early morning hours to help minimize traffic disruptions. Crews are scheduled to begin work at approximately 5 a.m. each day, allowing work in higher-traffic areas to be completed or substantially progressed before peak morning traffic.

The rehabilitation work is part of the City’s ongoing effort to maintain and improve the sanitary sewer collection system. Proactive rehabilitation of existing manholes helps extend the service life of infrastructure, reduce infiltration into the wastewater collection system, and prevent more costly repairs in the future.
