LARNED — Modern Woodmen of America District agent, Sally Brungardt presented the “Hometown Hero” award to Bill Clapham, Thursday, Aug. 20, at Edwards Street Restaurant in Larned.

Clapham was selected as the Hometown Hero this year for his dedication to his country, city, and church.

He is a U.S. Army veteran with three years of service, spending one year in Vietnam, and continuing with the National Guard. He continues to call cadence for the Veterans Day parade. He served in the Larned Fire Department for 43 years. A volunteer position he dearly loved, spending 10 years as Fire Chief. Clapham also served two terms on Larned City Council.

A life member of the Larned Christian Church, he fills in on Sundays when the minister is unable to be there. He will be found doing repairs, janitorial work at the church during the week so the church will be ready for Sunday services.

The “Home Town Hero” award also came with a $100 donation for Clapham to select a charity of his choice. The Larned Welcome Inn Senior Center was selected.
