Great Bend band students had the opportunity recently to work with clinician Darryl Batchelor, retired jazz band director at Hutchinson Community College.
Batchelor worked with the GBMS Jazz Band before school on Friday, March 31, and then went on to work with the high school bands and Jefferson Elementary 6th grade band. He then returned to the middle school to work with the 7th- and 8th-grade bands before ending his day with the high school jazz band.
“You have very talented kids here,” Batchelor said at the end of the day.
GBMS Band Director Don Regehr said the opportunity to work with such a distinguished clinician was made possible with funds from the Great Bend Jazz Festival. Having him come here promotes band and jazz band music to Great Bend students.
“We appreciate the GB Jazz Festival doing this for us,” Regehr said. “Without their help, the students would miss out on a lot of feedback and added instruction.”
