The Golden Belt Community Concert Association will present the Side Street Strutters with their newest offering of jazz entertainment titled “Shiny Stockings” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium.
This event is available to concert association members. Full-time students also will be admitted to the concert for a $5 donation at the door by showing their school ID. The auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m.
In 1983, a group of talented musicians attending Arizona State University formed a musical ensemble whose artistic focus centered around the traditions of early New Orleans jazz. Now, more than 25 years later, the same core members are still together and have expanded their musical palette to include over a half century of jazz styles from Dixieland and blues, to big band swing and popular standards.
In concert, the Side Street Strutters borrow from their extensive repertoire of beautifully crafted arrangements, colorful costumes, tap dancing, and years of showmanship and musicianship to create a fun-filled evening centered on jazz-America’s musical heritage. Recently, the ensemble unveiled its new program, “Shiny Stockings,” featuring the vocal stylings of Meloney Collins, to capture the essential charm and vibrant energy of the golden age of jazz.
