Costume drive happening Saturday
The Book Nook

During this time of the year, many people enjoy decorating inside and out, whether it is a spooky Halloween theme, or a fun and cute fall theme. The Great Bend Public Library wants you to know that there are activities here at the library to match the October season, and we hope to see you at one of the events!

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 13, the Kiwanis Club is hosting its annual costume drive at the library. Visit the lower-level meeting room to enjoy Halloween treats, games, and costumes. You will have a chance to pick out a costume to take with you at no charge, provided by the generosity of Kiwanis and other donors. Although the program is geared especially toward families with young children, it is open to people of all ages, and all costumes are new or very gently used.

The Teen Spot is getting into the spirit of the Halloween season as well. At 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, teens will have a chance to participate in a video game tournament, followed by a Halloween movie that will start at 1 p.m. At 1 p.m. on Thursday the following week (Oct. 25), the Teen Spot will host a scary movie, followed at 5 p.m. by a spooky craft (Build Your Own “Frankentoy”). At 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, Teen Spot will begin a Tim Burton movie marathon. Please check the library website for movie title information.

There are many non-Halloween events coming soon as well. At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, a ranger from the Fort Larned National Historic Site will present a presentation entitled “Hispanics on the Santa Fe Trail.” This special presentation will meet downstairs in the library computer lab, immediately following the Genealogy Club meeting at 6 p.m.

There are even more exciting events happening for adults, teens, and children next week: see the schedule below for a full listing. For more detailed information on any library events, programs, or resources, check out our website (www.greatbendpl.info), send us an email (gbcirc@greatbendpl.info), or call the circ desk (620-792-2409). You can also “like” and follow GBPL on Facebook.
