Council acts on Police Station bonds; Commission talks insurance, grants

The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Tuesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via Cox Cable Channel 20 or live online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/.The meeting will be recorded.  

The agenda includes an ordinance and resolution regarding the issuing of bonds for the new police station, updates to the city’s master fee schedule, remodeling the Senior Center bathrooms, an executive session to discuss the performance of a an individual employee’s performance pursuant to nonelected personnel, and a work session to discuss public safety retirement.


The County Commission

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes risk management insurance proposals, Kansas Association of Counties special election voting delegates, a CDC Drug-Free Community Grant, a Central Kansas Community Corrections Improving Reentry for Adults with Substance Use Disorders Program grant, a generator replacement for the Health Department, the purchase of a Bobcat skid steer loader for the Solid Waste Department, a vehicle repair for the Road and Bridge Department, an agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation for bridge inspections and a service agreement for a county counselor.

Following the agenda meeting, the following study session appointments have been scheduled:

10:15 a.m. Repayment of Women, Infants and Children funds – Health Director Karen Winkelman.

10:30 a.m. – Feasibility study – Facilities Director Phil Hathcock.

10:45 a.m. – Grant update – Grant Coordinator Sue Cooper.

11 a.m. – Personnel matters – Central Kansas Community Corrections Director Amy Boxberger. 

11:15 a.m. – Schedule of authorized positions and capital improvement and equipment replacement plans – Finance Officer Matt Patzner.

11:30 a.m. – Regular business discussion – Interim County Administrator Barry McManaman and County Clerk Donna Zimmerman.
