Council meets Monday, Commission talks HVAC bids

The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Wednesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via Cox Cable Channel 20 or live online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/.The meeting will be recorded.  

The agenda includes:

• A report from Interim City Administrator Logan Burns.

• A report from Christina Hayes, community coordinator and Convention and Visitors Bureau director.

• The purchase of a 2023 Vac-Con Freightliner truck for the Public Works Department.

• Fire Department township contracts.

• An executive session to discuss matters deemed privileged due to attorney-client relations.

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes:

• Bulk mailing of valuation notices.

• An addition to the Barton County Employee Handbook regarding the interaction with minors.

• An occupancy agreement for the county building at 1806  12th St. for  the Central Kansas Partnership., Rise Up HEART (Health Equity Action Recovery Team) program.

• A Fire District 1 Board of Trustees appointment.

• A revision of the authorized position listing.

• A discussion of the  Kansas Association of Counties New Commission Orientation training last week in Topeka.

• An executive session.

Following the agenda meeting, the following appointments are scheduled:

•  10 a.m.  –  personnel with Karen Winkelman, health director.

• 10:15 a.m. – Neighborhood Revitalization Program with Wendy Prosser, county appraiser. 

• 10:30 a.m. – overview with Doug Hubbard of Fire District No. 1.

• 10:45 a.m. – supplemental inspection services with Barry McManaman, county engineer.  

• 11 a.m. – The County accepted bids for the Barton County Courthouse Improvement Project, including a new HVAC system, until 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18.  The commission will attend the bid opening in the County Clerk’s Office, 1400 Main, Room 202, Great Bend, Kansas. The Commission will then return to chambers and discuss. 

• 11:45 a.m. – regular business discussion with Matt Patzner, director of operations.
