As it has for over a decade, the Barton County Road and Bridge Department will come to the aid of The City of Claflin.
The city requested assistance from the department with sealing of certain roads within the city limits. As an independent contractor, the county will receive no more than $6,750 for labor and equipment, County Works Director Darren Williams said.
Claflin City Attorney Robert Suelter developed the contractual agreement for the work.
It is against county policy for the county to compete with private contractors who may also bid for such projects. However, the work in Clalfin is on such a small scale that the city can’t get any company to bid on it, commission Chairwoman Jennifer Schartz said.
The county had worked with Claflin for over 10 years. “We are happy to do it,” Williams said, adding his department will have no problem fitting the work into its schedule.
“I think this is a great working relationship,” Commissioner Alicia Straub said.
