The Barton County Commission Monday morning approved a resolution transferring and carrying over 2016 unexpended funds to the capital improvement totalling $496,000 and equipment replacement funds totalling $752,000.

It is the county’s practice to transfer unexpended funds from one year to the next. After accounting of all the 2016 transactions, monies are generally transferred to these funds, Finance Officer Matt Patzner said.

In other business Monday morning, the Barton County Commission:

• Approved revisions to the bylaws governing the Barton County Health Department Advisory Committee. In 1987, the county commissioners adopted a resolution creating the seven-member committee. It is charged with reviewing and making recommendations on policies related to public health services in the county.

However, Health Director Shelly Schneider said the bylaws had not been updated in 30 years and needed some minor revisions. She, along with current committee members, undertook the task.

In related action, the commission reappointed Hannelore Kitts and appointed Brian Wilborn of Hoisington and Libbie Merritt, a nurse in USD 428, to uncompensated positions on the BCHDAC. The terms expire Dec. 31, 2018.

• Approved the purchase of a lawn mower from Pro Green of Great Bend at a cost of $9,000 for the Solid Waste Department. The department is in need of a commercial-sized mower. Bids were requested from local vendors for a zero-turn mower with a 72-inch cutting deck for use at the landfill to replace one that had worn out and was sold at the county auction last November.
