United Way of Central Kansas received some much needed volunteer hours this past Monday. Dillons and Volunteers in Action teamed up to help the United Way prepared much needed items for their 2016 Campaign and cut out flashcards for Literacy Kits that will be distributed next spring at the Kindergarten Round-ups in Great Bend, Ellinwood, and Larned. The volunteers on hand helped UWCK gear up for their 2016 Payroll deduction campaign by preparing the pledge cards and other information in drawstring bags to distribute to the over 60 companies in our community that participate in our payroll deduction program. This form of donation accounts for over 50% of the funds raised each year for the 19 agencies that they help support.
Dillons is a payroll company and a Pacesetter from the 2015 Campaign, meaning they are one of the top 15 Payroll Deduction companies for UWCK.  They extend their help by doing volunteer work, known as “Days of Caring”, participate with Stuff the Bus, and offer a way for you to donate every time you shop with the Dillons Community Rewards Program.
Volunteers in Action is a local organization who helps connect volunteers with the organizations that need help. Their mission is “Through the recruitment of skills-based volunteers of all ages we will leverage the specialized skills and talents of individuals to strengthen the infrastructure of our local nonprofits. Connecting volunteers with the agencies will empower each group and create an environment of sustainability enabling the agencies to better fulfill their missions.” To learn more about their organization, call 620-792-1614.
“Volunteers are an essential part of what we do at United Way. Without the help of the generous people in our community, we would not be able to have the outreach that we do.” said  Julie Bugner-Smith, UWCK Executive Director.
