Drug Take Back Day a success.
gbtribune news

Drug Take back day that was held last Saturday turned out to a great success for Barton County and the City of Great Bend.
According to Sheriff Brian Bellendir, 191 pounds of prescription medication was collected and will be disposed of through the DEA.
Bellendir added that this event is designed to protect kids, families and the environment by properly disposing of unwanted and expired medicines.
Medicines in the home are a leading cause of accidental poisoning and flushed or trashed medicines can end up polluting our waters.
Rates of prescription drug abuse are alarmingly high. Over half of teens abusing medicines get them from a family member or friend, including the home medicine cabinet, and often without their knowledge.
If people missed the event and want more information on how to safely dispose of drugs, contact the Barton County Health Department at 620.793.1902. Shelly Schneider, Public Health Director, and her staff will be able to assist.
