Area high school artists will $1,500 in BCC scholarships

Area high school students presented their artwork in a juried exhibit in the Shafer Art Gallery on Wednesday with the top three award winners receiving $500 scholarships from the Barton Foundation during Central Prairie League Art Day at Barton Community College.
Students also spent time on campus in art workshops that covered a variety of topics and listened to a gallery talk by Gallery Director David Barnes.  Art instructors on campus served as the jurors for the exhibit.
The Best of Show 3-D Award was given to Sierra McCauley of Macksville High School for her ceramic sculpture “American Bison.”
The Best of Show 2-D Award was given to Sam Stroede of Central Plains High School for her painting “Just Swimming.”
The Director’s Choice Award was given to Ashley Wellbrock of Victoria High School for her drawing “Light as a Feather.”
Each winner was awarded a $500 scholarship by the Barton Foundation.
Central Kansas Prairie League Day included schools from Central Plains, Kinsley, LaCrosse, Macksville, Ness City, Otis-Bison, St. John and Victoria high schools.
