The Barton County Sheriff’s Reserves recently presented scholarships to Andrew Baker and Jonathon Browne.
Spokesman J.P. Postlethwaite said the BSCO Reserves give two $500 scholarships annually. These are given to a senior of any high school in Barton County or a Barton Community College student. The student has to be a resident of Barton County, must be attending Barton College and studying in criminal justice, nursing or a fire/EMS field.
“This program has had great success, and we have had 80 percent of the recipients return to employment in law enforcement, nursing, fire/EMS somewhere in our county,” Postlethwaite said.
Baker is the son of Stuart and Lisa Baker of Great Bend. Browne is the son of Bill and Teresa Browne, also of Great Bend. Both students will be studying law enforcement at Barton Community College.
