Fort Hays State University invited Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow Dr. Robert K. Musil, an internationally renowned leader in the international peace, nuclear disarmament and environmental movements, for an intensive week-long visit from Sept. 20 to 24.
Musil will conduct classes, seminars, workshops and lectures and will meet with students and faculty informally throughout the week to share his practical knowledge in the areas of environmental sustainability.
“Musil will be a perfect fit for FHSU,” said Dr. Larry Gould, FHSU Provost. “Our students will have a chance to meet an expert with a deep knowledge of environmental health and sustainability, helping to create better understanding and new connections between the academic and nonacademic worlds. We’re delighted that Musil will also have time to get to know our campus and to explore in depth how the classroom and campus relate to the broader society.”
Musil is chair of the board of “2020 Vision: Environment, Energy and Security Solutions” and Scholar in Residence at the American University School of International Service, where he teaches in the Program on Global Environmental Politics and the Nuclear Studies institute.
Musil is also a visiting scholar at the Churches’ Center for Theology and Public Policy at the Wesley Theological Seminary, where he teaches about religious responses to global warming. Until 2006, he served as the long-time CEO of Physicians for Social Responsibility, which won the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows program, which is administered by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) in Washington, D.C., brings prominent artists, diplomats, journalists, business leaders and other professionals to campuses across the United States for a week-long residential program of classes, seminars, workshops, lectures and informal discussions.
For 35 years, the Visiting Fellows have been introducing students and faculty members at liberal arts colleges to a wide range of perspectives on life, society, community and achievement.
