Nine members of the Great Bend High School Kays and 13 Kayettes attended the Area 6 KAY Regional Conference on Nov. 7 at Arkansas City Middle School. The clubs returned with the highest state award possible. The Kays and Kayettes each received the Gold Award, recognizing their student leadership and service to their school, community, nation and world for the 2012-2013 school year.
The Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) is a character-building, leadership training program directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. The conference affords opportunities for student leaders and sponsors from neighboring clubs to share successes and challenges, as well as exchange ideas.
Greg Burley served this past year as president of KAY Area 6 and presided over the conference. He gave an inspirational speech to the members at the conclusion of the conference.
Great Bend was well represented by some outstanding young leaders from our high school. Attending the conference were: Tarynn Stueder, Kaylie Doll, Kelsie Doll, Hannah Hildebrand, Tasha Bieker, Heather Schneider, Bethany Reiser, Katy Jerke, Morgan Kottas, Kaylan Lagerman, Taryn Morgan, Hadley Murphy, Riley Jones, Greg Burley, Aaron Sanko, Justin Kuhlman, Ryan Clark, Nick Warren, Bryce Beck, Chris Seidel, Adam Jacobs and Cole Mulch.
Accompanying the group were Tina Hiss, KAY sponsor and Karen Clark, Kayette sponsor.
