GBHS students place at math relays

GBHS students are shown on the grounds of Fort Hays State University, where they attended Math Relays.

Great Bend High School was represented by 17 scholars at the Fort Hays State University Math Relays on Thursday, November 8th.  In all there were 681 participants and 48 schools represented at this annual event.  GBHS placed 6th overall out of ten teams in the 4A/5A/6A school category.
In all, there were 6 events where the students tested their math skills against other students in the same grade level.  The first event, Using Number Sense, found 4 GBHS scholars in the top ten in their respective grade levels.  Alex Morgan 9th (so), Logan Zecha 9th  (jr), Bryce Divis 9th (sr.) and Tristan Yount 2nd (sr.)
The second event, Trigonometry, was for 11th and 12th graders only.  In this event, the 12th grade team of Tristan Yount, Bryce Divis and Mitch Johnson placed ninth.
Finishing in the top 10 in the third event, Algebraic Manipulations included 2 individuals and 2 teams.  Individually, Alex Morgan placed 10th and Tristan Yount placed 4th.  The 10th grade team of Natasha Bieker, Matt Black, and Taylor Hofeling placed 9th.  The 11th grade team, Trey Newkirk, Alec Witt and Logan Zecha placed tenth.
Events four and five, Informal Geometry and Applications of Algebra and Arithmetic, included one individual placing and two teams.  Colton Lagerman (jr.) placed 5th in event four.  The 11th grade team of Greg Burley, Colton Lagerman, and Logan Zecha placed 5th and the 12th grade team of Tristan Yount, Bryce Divis, and Mitch Johnson placed 1st in event five.
The final event of the day, Calculations with Calculators, brought one team and one individual placing in the top ten.  The 11th grade team of Greg Burley, Colten Lagerman, and Logan Zecha placed 6th, while senior Tristan Yount placed 2nd in this last event of the day.
Also attending the Math Relays with the Panther team were freshmen Morgan Kottas, Kaylan Lagerman, Heather Schneider, Tanya Sanchez, and sophomore Maleigha Prieto.
