Hoisington Debaters take second at Russell

HOISINGTON — The Hoisington High School Debate Team placed second out of ten schools competing at Russell recently. The team had a combined 11-4 win/loss record, just behind first place Dodge City with a 12-3 record. Hays was third with a 10-5 record.
In the varsity division, HHS debaters Taylor Schwartz and Garrett Dykes placed second with a 4-1 record. They defeated teams from Dodge City, Garden City, Ellinwood, and Hays. They lost to another Dodge City team.
In the novice division, Logan Hammeke and Kylie Miller placed third with a 4-1 record. They actually tied for second, but lost the tie-breaker (based on the opposition record of their opponents). They defeated two teams from Ulysses, and teams from Halstead and Garden City. They lost to a Dodge City team.
Samantha Colson and Audrie Harms placed seventh with a 3-2 record. They received a bye and defeated teams from Ellinwood and Hays. They lost to teams from Ulysses and Dodge City.
Alexis Doonan judged in the novice division and served as an alternate in the varsity division.
