During this season of appreciation and gratitude Wellness students in Mrs. Wilborn’s classes at HMS have written letters to our Military Servicemen and Servicewomen as part of Operation Gratitude.
Wellness classes at HMS emphasize character and leadership. Students explore many character traits, what they mean, character models that exemplify the traits, and service opportunities in our community and world, and the importance of positive leadership.
Each letter written will go into a care package that is prepared for our Military by the volunteers at Operation Gratitude based out of Van Nuys, Calif. Since its inception in 2003, Operation Gratitude volunteers have shipped more than 1 million care packages.
HMS students have truly enjoyed the opportunity to offer support for our troops. “We have a wonderful bunch of students here at HMS. The students recognize that they are a part of something bigger than themselves and that they can lead by serving others,” said Mrs. Cindy Wilborn-Wellness Teacher.
When asked what the purpose of this project is, 6th grade student-Holt Hanzlick said, “We do this so we can take care of the people who take care of us.”
